Malic acid is an organic compound that is a dicarboxylic acid. It is made by all living organisms and contributes to the sour tastes you can find in fruits. Sometimes, in food industries, it is used as a food additive. The salts and esters of malic acid are known as malates where the malate anion is an intermediate in the citric acid cycle.
It was first isolated from apple juice by Carl Wilhelm Scheele. - Fibromyalgia: By taking malic acid in combination with magnesium seems to reduce pain and tenderness that is caused by fibromyalgia.
- Frequent heartburn problems: Not solid but in some research done, people who take malic acid with omeprazole can improve some symptoms of heartburn better than just taking omeprazole alone.
- Other uses: Other uses of malic acid are mostly medical. You can find people using malic acid for fatigue, warts, scaly and itchy skin (psoriasis), aging skins, and other medical conditions.
